The life of high stakes legend and Poker Hall of Fame member Daniel Negreanu has seen some massive changes in the last few months, most notably by getting engaged and steering his focus towards family life. Negreanu, however, wouldn’t be one of the most accomplished players in the history of the game if he wasn’t looking forward to the U.S. Poker Open at the PokerGO Studio.

While Negreanu might not play a full slate of events, he’s still stoked for this series that has $100,000 added for the overall best performer.

“I think the $100,000 added is great. I think a cash prize for the best all-around player for the series is worth playing for.”

Negreanu’s 2018 was stellar, finishing second to Justin Bonomo in the Super High Roller Bowl for $3,000,000 along with a fourth-place finish in the PCA $100k, two close calls at the World Series of Poker and two Poker Masters final tables. This year, however, Negreanu might not put in as much volume but that he thinks that even with a reduces schedule he can always compete.

“I’ll only really lose a step if I don’t enjoy playing. If I’m not enjoying it, I zone out, look at my phone and miss the action. If I feel like playing a lot, which I’m sure I will come WSOP time, I think I’ll be a threat in any tournament I play.”

Having spent a lot of time and effort into studying a game-theory centered approach in 2018 before opening himself up a bit more during the most recent Super High Roller Bowl, Negreanu loves the added layer of player dynamics in high roller events and the need for constant adjustments.

“It’s rare in low to mid-stakes tournaments to get a chance to develop a long history against any one player. On the High Roller circuit, it’s common. So there are huge adjustments necessary because you have to factor in so much history.”
